What's your Story?- Laura Renauld

Every story has a beginning, a middle and an end. But within that bigger story are lots of little ones, chapters, scenes and volumes. Thanks to Laura Renauld , author of "FRED'S BIG FEELINGS; The Life and Legacy of Mister Rogers" for including us in her COUNTDOWN TO LAUNCH DAY! Only 4 days to go!

When she's not writing, Laura can be found at the library, working in the garden, or sharing her love of reading and writing with children. She also created the Debut Review Challenge to support authors and illustrators who are promoting their first book. The Beginning -

Hi, Ellie! Thanks for hosting me on your blog!

My name is Laura Renauld. I am a picture book author living in Virginia, USA. In my pre-mom life, I was an elementary school teacher. I have always been a reader, but it wasn’t until my adult life that I decided to be a writer. My favorite part of teaching was reading aloud and watching how a story can captivate, inspire, and encourage children. When they listen to a story, they are all in. I loved that immersion in story and I just had to be a part of it as an author.

The Middle-

For the past year, since my debut picture book (Porcupine’s Pie, illustrated by Jennie Poh, published by Beaming Books) came out in October 2018, I’ve been so proud to finally be able to call myself a published author.

Very soon (January 14th!), my next book will be released. It is a nonfiction picture book biography of Fred Rogers titled Fred’s Big Feelings: The Life and Legacy of Mister Rogers, illustrated by Brigette Barrager, published by Atheneum/Simon & Schuster. He was a pioneer in children’s television and is a beloved American icon.

Mister Rogers encouraged children to express themselves in their own unique ways and he shared an all-important message with his television neighbors: I like you just the way you are.

I wanted children to learn about this man who took the big feelings that children have seriously, showed by his actions the importance of inclusion and kindness, and made every child feel special. His message is just as relevant today as it was in 1968 when his television show first aired.

The End, (which is always actually a new beginning!)

As a published author, I now have the opportunity to connect with readers at various book festivals and school visits. It is amazing to watch kids get excited about reading and writing because of my words and kids inspire me all the time with new book ideas. Each child is creativity embodied!

My next book is a companion to my debut, Porcupine’s Pie, titled Bear’s Bicycle. It will be illustrated by Jennie Poh and published by Beaming Books in Spring 2021. I’m so happy to share another story featuring Porcupine, Bear, Doe, and Squirrel!

Thank you for having me on your blog!

Thanks so much for being here Laura! I know everyone who reads this blog, especially in Australia where there is so much emotion over our current bushfires, understands how important it is for kids to be okay with expressing their feelings. Sometimes sharing a picture book is the perfect way to help with that process. A beautiful new book to add to your shelf this year! We wish you all the best with "FRED'S BIG FEELINGS" and will be counting down with you to launch day!

That's all from me for now , but I'll be back soon...
